We need your input! Our Wing Champs class, which races on Saturday nights, has seen a drop in participation recently. We're committed to making this class stronger and the racing more exciting, but we need your help to get there!
Whether you’re a current Wing Champs driver or not, we’d love to hear your thoughts. What can we do to grow this class? How can we improve the racing experience for everyone? If you previously raced in our Wing Champs class and no longer do, we would value hearing why.
Please share your suggestions below or send us a message. Let’s work together to build an even better racing community!

This post is to get ideas for the upcoming season nothing on here is set in stone.Im just glad we have interest in the class.Lets make Wing Champs great again.JW
Let’s do what other tracks are doing with the champs. 10 inch right sides take the wing off and strap a clone on it
I think the track may be too big and fast for these karts. I like the wing and drafting because it’s unique. I’m not a fan of seeing them run w/o the wing and clone motors. I think Daveys accident made a lot of drivers think twice from a safety standpoint. Just my opinion. I would like to see a senior champ class move back to the Friday/sunday race day with the rest of the kart classes and then remove the wing, run the small oval, 206/clone/ducar motor. There are no other 206 champ classes around here (I don’t think). Most run clone or ducar. I miss running the wing champ class and have had many, many thoughts about coming back. I feel lucky to have not have any big accidents in three full seasons. Whatever happens, the class needs a tech person that is consistent and has no affiliation with any of the karts in the class. Just my opinion
Cold hard truth can ya take it? Safety- is a big thing, these karts where not designed to go as fast as they are on a big track. Yeah I know racing is dangeroud and that’s the risk we take. But every year atleast one person is getting cut out of a kart, when is the last time you have seen someone seriously hurt in the upper divisions. Politics/conflict of interest: this is a very broad topic and I’m not gonna name scenarios at all. But that’s a lot of it as well. Ask current drivers their opinion about how things are ran/ handled off social media. Again not bashing. Just the facts. I’ve ran this division long enough I’ve seen many come and go and that’s the main two reasons
That’s whole problem with this club. Every other year it’s , you need another motor. Those are facts ! Y’all better focus on the CLUB PART. it’s no doubt Fri and Sun are down a lot karts.
Take the wings off, run the clone motor, put a gear rule on it if you want, window net on driver side, 10” right side and 6.5” left side wheels, open tire(yellow Vega). 425 weight. Follow nka clone rules. I would run the class if it went to that.
Conform to “normal/ever changing” kart rules in the area be it dirt or asphalt for engine/chassis/body. Open tire rule. If a racers can bring a car/kart from track to track without major changes it gives them the opportunity to try new track. Noone is going to buy a new motor, wing, tires/wheels just to try a division at a track. Also to me Karts belong to HRKC Friday nights/Sundays take em back there
Just my .02 worth. In the last few seasons we have witnessed some wrecks that have caused permanent to minor injuries to these drivers. Most have families and work full time to support them. Taking into consideration that they could receive injuries that will affect them from a few days to a lifetime, I feel many are weighting risk vs reward with their hobby. I feel if these karts went back to running the smaller oval in the infield many would return. This would reduce the possibility of injury immensely. Again, just my thoughts.
What was the highest kart count for a single race? Seems like to me we almost cracked a 30 kart count on a few race nights?
Get on board with Wake County rules. They have a great kart count with Clone/Open tire/No wing/still push the safety net & mirror. They also pay back thru the entire field the day of. Seems to be working for them. Just a thought.
I stepped away under the flathead motors due to concentrating on Amandas car. The following season the motor was changed. To me as a spectator at that point, the karts looked entirely to unsettled. Like the increase in speed made them far more reactive to the buffering of a draft. After Millards wreck, I knew I wouldn't be back in one. Too fast without enough protection around the driver. Simply the opinion of a "has been" in the class, but I feel far safer any night in my car.
I showed up to race this year on a Friday night, to find out my class is no longer existent. I didn’t want to buy another engine, so I race elsewhere. I’d be interested, if it were open tire, with a clone. The wing doesn’t matter to me. I’d consider adding a wing champ to my fleet for this.
I’ll be racing next season, currently getting my kart together
Gosh I love this kinda post. Kudos to y’all for stirring it up.
Open tire, clone, 425lb minimum, no wing
And maybe the occasional money race, tire,ect.., give the drivers something to race for other than the $10 trophy. The occasional incentive could go a long way.
Just my thoughts, why don't we see what kind of commitment we can get out of folks for next year before motor changes and open tire rules. I see ppl on this post saying they are planning to race next year, including myself and Billy Dailey and even Vaughan. Ppl have what they need to run under the current rules, we just gotta get them to the track. Planning to see yall October 5th!
Here's a little tid bit for you we took Avery Ferrell from a Saturday night on dirt in his jr champ changed only tires and restricted plate and 2nd on three different Sundays. So I'm thinking if you make rules for the senior champs more uniform it's very doable.
Drop the Burris tires and the wing. Open tire with the 206 or clone. (I'm a fan of the 206 but it isn't gonna help pull anyone from another oval track.) I'd copy King George Speedway rules.
We also have a extra wing champ if someone is to be interested in racing to try it out or if someone wants to get back in it
Our team will show up if there’s a purse involved. The green buggy is just sitting and waiting
let’s be honest. We haven’t been in it as long as some but the Wings are the Cousin Eddie of Langley/club. We don’t really fit with the cars or trucks and we don’t really fit with the club either. Don’t get me wrong everyone has been very inviting but it feels like we just don’t have a place. The teams work their butts off to have a handful of karts show up and the series is dominated by the ol’ timers (meant lovingly) I agree with needing a stacked field and even offering up more support for starting out. 206 isn’t popular and going with a set up that brings in the competition seems to be a popular decision. I absolutely love the club and track for all they’ve done for my team but it’s a dying class right now sadly. -206 to clone -inclusive team atmosphere - utilize those who have been in it and know what they’re doing to mentor those that want to try it out Just my observations. 😁
I don’t run champs so I don’t have a horse in the race but I know guys who would race if you made it a clone motor and regular wheels from what we run on a regular basis
If Bill does let someone take all wings off. You’ll be racing on Sundays and fridays.
I would get rid of the wing and switch to clone, maybe bigger tires
