KART RACING
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED
AGE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 5 years old to start racing Kid Karts (50cc 2-cycle or Jr LO206 karts).
Must be 7 years old to start racing in adult size chassis.
Classes are listed by ages with minimum weights in the HRKC Rulebook.
TO BEGIN, YOU WILL NEED:
KART – HRKC races 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines.
MANDATORY SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR ALL DRIVERS:
HELMET- Helmet shall be a full face meeting current standard SNELL certification for MOTORCYCLE (M), SPECIAL APPLICATION (SA or SAH), KARTING (K) or CHILDREN’S MOTORSPORTS (CMR or CMS)

NECK BRACE – Collar-type, designed for motor sports use. Champ Kart drivers must wear a SFI rated head and neck restraint device (ie: HANS).
DRIVER’S SUIT – Can wear blue jeans and jacket made of abrasion-resistant material. No nylon windbreakers or sweatshirts. Champ Kart, Mini Cup and Arena Car drivers must wear an SFI rated fire suit – a single layer fire suit is the minimum allowed.
DRIVING GLOVES – Required for all drivers.
RIB PROTECTOR – Youths 12 and under are required to wear WKA/SFI approved chest protector (approx. $75.00).
RACING SHOES – Or suitable leather (tennis) shoes. Shoes covering the ankle is HIGHLY recommended.
KARTS & PARTS SOURCES:
Various online sources, when in doubt, ASK! A great local source for used parts on Facebook can be found by searching for the “Virginia Karts and Parts for Sale” group.

$ 40.00 prior to day of 1st points race
$ 50.00 1st points race and beyond
Members receive monthly newsletters, rulebooks and compete for track championship.
We have a monumental annual Awards Banquet!!
Read your HRKC Rulebook with your child. Be sure to ask questions if you are unsure about anything.
HRKC strongly recommends getting some seat time for yourself/your child before coming out to race.
PLACES TO PRACTICE YOUR KART:
Ft. Eustis – Year around at the kart track. Hours are Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 12noon. Call ahead for more information on availability.

Langley Speedway – Track available for rental on weekdays. Contact Langley Speedway about available times and fees (757) 865-7223.
